Marketing has absorbed a great deal of disruption. Search, social, mobile, privacy, the end of the cookie. Each one changed where we work and how we reach people. Each one left the job itself intact.
This one is different. It changes the job.
Outside your organisation, buyers ask a model instead of a search engine. They arrive already decided, or they never arrive at all. Inside it, the stack kept growing. Every tool now has its own copilot, and none of them can see what your colleagues are doing. So marketers are being asked to prove more, with a measurement model that has stopped working, using a stack that grows every quarter.
Something is emerging from this, and it deserves a name. An Agentic Marketer directs a team of agents rather than working through a queue of tasks. They set the outcome, orchestrate the work, and supply the judgement agents cannot: what the brand sounds like, what is worth making, and what good looks like.
Which brings up the part most teams have not thought about yet. Humans learn a brand by proximity. They sit in the room, they hear the objection, they watch a piece of copy come back with a comment on it. Agents learn nothing by proximity. They know only what you have written down.
There are no product screenshots in this manifesto. We wrote it because the job is changing faster than the language we have for it, and marketers deserve a clear account of what is happening rather than another promise of freedom.
What you will take from it
- Where your team sits on the four levels of agentic marketing, and the one jump that matters most
- Where your brand sits on the same ladder, which is usually a rung lower
- Why "warm and human" tells an agent nothing, and what a usable brand rule looks like instead
- How human oversight scales when no person can read every piece of work
- What agents cannot do, and why that makes marketing a bigger job rather than a smaller one
Why it matters
- Every company in a category now drafts with the same few models, and those models pull towards the same average. Take the logos off your homepage and your closest competitor's, shuffle the paragraphs, and most categories can no longer be sorted back
- A model that cannot tell you apart from your competitors has no reason to name you when a buyer asks
Content
- Something has changed, and it changed quietly
- Two things broke at once
- Assistance was never going to be enough
- A new kind of marketer
- What agents cannot do
- Your brand becomes the instruction set
- Competence is now free. Distinctiveness is not.
- Machines read your brand now, as well as people
- How human oversight scales
- Four levels, and the same ladder read through your brand
- Composure, and what we believe
